Homemade Dried Sweet Potato Snacks

Sweet, chewy, and healthy snack.
This traditional method involves steaming the sweet potatoes three times and sun-drying them three times to achieve the perfect chewy texture.
For a quicker method, we alternate oven-drying and sun-drying instead of sun-drying all three times.

  • 4 Sweet potatoes

Method
 

  1. Wash and peel the sweet potatoes.
  2. Slice into 0.5 – 1 cm thick slices or sticks.
  3. Steam for 5 -10 minutes, until just soft but not mushy, and can be poked with a fork.
  4. Place the sweet potato slices on a baking rack and dry in the oven: Preheat oven 250°F. Bake for 1 hour.
  5. Then dry under the sun for a day, turning occasionally. Bring them indoors at night to avoid moisture.
  6. On the second day, steam the sweet potatoes again for 5 minutes, then dry them in the oven at 250°F for 30 minutes, and continue sun-drying for another full day.
  7. On the third day, steam the sweet potatoes one last time for 5 minutes, then sun-dry for the final day until they reach your desired level of chewiness and dryness.
  8. Store in an airtight container and enjoy these healthy, homemade snacks.
